Ingredient Hotline To Feature Innovative South American Ingredients

Ingredient Hotline to Exhibit at the 22nd Annual Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology’s Montreal Suppliers Night

Toronto, Ontario, Thursday, April 8, 2010 – The concepts of “super fruits” and “super foods” have become increasingly popular as consumers grow sensitive about what they eat. Phytonutrient content is often a driver behind purchases today as consumers look for potential health benefits in the foods they consume. On April 15, 2010 at the 22nd edition of the CIFST Montreal Section Suppliers’ Night at Place Forzani, 4855 Louis B Mayer, Laval, Quebec, Ingredient Hotline, Inc. will be featuring two innovative products: purple corn juice and chia.

Ingredient Hotline has built an offering of unique South American products including aji pepper pastes and sauces made with rocoto and amarillo peppers, and yacón syrup, an all natural sweetener with an extremely low glycemic index. At this show, Ingredient hotline will be expanding this product line.

Purple corn juice is an all natural peruvian beverage made from purple corn. Like other “purples” such as açaí and blueberries, purple corn claims many health benefits and a high concentration of antioxidants.

Ingredient Hotline will also be demonstrating the use of chia in baking products. Maria Januszczak, Director of Business Development at Ingredient Hotline, explains: “The consumption of omega-3 is a growing trend amongst those in search of a diet that may help improve cardiovascular health, strengthen the nervous system and stop cell aging. Deep-water fish oil has historically been the source of omega-3. Alternative, vegetable sources such as sea algae, flax and chia have been investigated during the last few years due to issues with mercury and toxins found in fish derived products. Chia in particular, is far superior as it contains 18 grams of α-linolenic acid for every 100 grams of seeds, making it the greatest vegetable source of this essential fatty acid.”

Besides omega-3, chia contains antioxidants, protein of good biological value, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, copper, vitamin A and those from the B-complex. It is cholesterol free, gluten free and uniquely ideal for vegetarian diets.

Ingredient Hotline will also showcase genuine European sourced dehydrated vegetables and vegetable powders.
